If a certain page on an Internet site doesn't load for some reason or if a link is broken, the visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the site, that may make the visitor leave your site. A possible solution in this case is a function made available from some website hosting service providers - the ability to set up your own custom-made error pages that will have the exact same design as your website and that can contain any images or text you want dependent upon the specific error. There are four well-known errors that can occur and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your Internet browser sends a bad request to the web server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see some web page, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you do not have an authorization to see a particular page; and 404, in case a link which you've clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In all of these situations, site visitors will be able to see your customized content rather than a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting
You can set up custom made error pages for all of your websites without difficulty if you use any of our shared hosting. This could be done via the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia CP, offered with all accounts and when you go there, you'll be able to set your custom pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You must upload the files to your account in advance and enter the links to them through the process. This function could be de-activated at any time and the options you shall be able to to choose from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache server page. Customized error pages may be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be placed in the domain or subdomain folder and it must contain some system code and links to the pages. If you're not tech-savvy, you may copy the entire content you'll need for the file from our Help section.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
All semi-dedicated hosting which we provide support custom made error pages and it shall not take more than a few mouse clicks inside your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this feature. The option is available in the Hosted Domains section of your CP in which you will have to enter the links to the custom-made files through simple drop-down menus and an easy to use interface. Needless to say, you should upload them inside your account before that. In case you don't want to use this feature at some point, you can disable it just as easily and select an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be displayed whenever your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to permit the custom made error pages. The file has to contain a specific line of code plus a link for every single error type and you may discover an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
